Academy

Academy

The Academy is the College's purpose-built 'sixth form centre' at which you can study for the following courses:

  • A Levels (A2 Levels)
  • AS Levels
  • GCSEs
  • Pre-GCSEs

The Academy encourages everyone to achieve their maximum potential, and our excellent pass rates show that setting high standards for our students pays off. Success rates for A levels and GCSEs are above national averages, the college does well in high grade passes at GCSE (A*-C), and many A Level students go on to universities and other Higher Education courses of their choice.

Highlights for 2006/7 included:

  • At GCSE, 99 % of ICT students achieved A*-C grades, with 36% gaining A* or A grade
  • At GCSE, science success rates were high, including 77% of chemistry GCSEs and 62% for physics passed at grades A*-C
  • At A Level 13 subjects out of 18 showed a 100% pass rate
  • At A Level there was a 97% pass rate at grades A*-E

Value-added measures - those which show how much progress students make during their time at the college - also show we are performing above national average, which means that the college is taking in a wide range of students and abilities, and outperforming other providers on a like-for like basis for achievement.

Who are these courses for?
Whether you need to improve your basic skills so you can join GCSE courses, take GCSEs, or sit AS and A Levels, The Academy can provide the teaching and support you need. Following your successful application, we'll arrange a tailor-made learning programme for you. We offer a broad range of subjects and can also offer exam entrance in subjects not taught as part of the standard curriculum, for example certain foreign languages.

What kind of environment will I be learning in?
The Academy is based in a dedicated building at the Uxbridge campus. It has the most up-to-date lecture rooms and science laboratories in the area, offering you the best possible environment for effective and rewarding learning.

The key features of your experience at the Academy will be:

  • A choice of around 15 AS Levels
  • Exceptional teaching and facilities
  • An excellent local reputation
  • Strong tutorial and support programme
  • Sympathetic assistance with problems
  • Close, regular contact with parents
  • Guidance on Higher Education
  • Scholarship schemes and subject prizes

What would these courses qualify me to do?
Academy courses may lead either to jobs, further academic study including degrees, vocational qualifications or university-level Higher Education courses. Many students who take GCSEs, either for the first time or as re-sits, go on to take AS and A Levels. Every year many of our successful A Level students go on to take up university places.

Are there any part-time courses available in this area?
The Academy also offers part-time GCSEs - details are available in our Part-Time Courses prospectus.
