Foundation

Foundation Studies offers a range of courses and programmes aimed at people who, for a variety of reasons, have few or no formal qualifications. Students work towards a number of goals, including basic and life skills such as maths and literacy, money management and travel in the community; developing confidence; preparation for further study; or preparation for employment by learning job-related skills including catering and hospitality, and information technology and computing.

Who are these courses for?
Students may be teenagers who have not achieved at school, young people with learning difficulties, or people who have few or no qualifications for other reasons. Many wish to prepare to enter work, live a more independent life, or go on to take further qualifications.

What kind of environment will I be learning in?
All members of staff working in this area are chosen for their commitment and ability to help every student meet their own unique challenges. Every student gets all the individual support they require and learns in a caring, encouraging environment.

What kind of real life experience will I get through these courses?
Courses often include activity days and practical activities to help teach key skills for life and work.

What would these courses enable me to do?
These qualifications are specifically aimed at either enabling students to go on to higher study or start looking for work. Many Foundation students go on to take GCSEs or vocational subjects at College on completing their basic skills training.
