Media and Graphics
Watching television at home, listening to the radio or going to the cinema is entertainment for most people, but what if you see yourself in front of the camera? The School of Creative Studies at Uxbridge College offers you the chance to hone your skills in news reporting, script writing, radio, filming and editing.

Who are these courses for?
The School of Creative Studies is ideal for students looking for an exciting future in the film, television, photography, and design industries. Many students joining courses are building on experience gained at school or through personal interests developed in their own time.
What kind of environment will I be learning in?
The School of Creative Studies has modern computer facilities in the Apple Mac suite. We have made huge improvements in our facilities recently, including:
- Upgrading software with the latest Adobe CS3 design standard and Web Standard
- New Power Mac Pro in the Media Edit lab
- Industry standard video editing software "Final Cut Studio 2"
- Final Cut Pro 6
- Motion 3
- Soundtrack Pro 2
- Colour, Compressor 3
- DVD Studio Pro 4.
In addition we also have specialist Fashion rooms and a functional Radio/Audio Studio. Students will work with a variety of media, ranging from traditional art & design - painting, drawing, ceramics, and printmaking - through to new media.
What kind of real life experience will I get through these courses?
Uxbridge College works with more than 150 employers to arrange relevant work experience for students, so you will learn all the practical skills required in work through a combination of teaching and industrial experience.
Students in their second year must do a unit for their work experience. Graphics students gain their real life experience working with a number of clients in the borough designing posters for organisation such as Fire Services, Metropolitan Police and many more. Similarly media students are involved in making videos for other schools in the college as well as working for external clients such as Hillingdon Borough Council and the Race Equality Council. We also have links with the BBC and Hayes FM for students who are interested in Radio/Media Production.
A number of industry links allow students to undertake experiences that provide a 'real-life' perspective on the media industry, and run an annual foreign excursion - to Disneyland Paris in 2005, Barcelona in 2006 and Rome in 2007.
What would these courses qualify me to do?
The media and graphics qualifications will put you ahead of the competition for the best-paid and most rewarding jobs in film, television, print media and design. Many of our students also go on to take further education qualifications, or join university-level Higher Education courses.
