Sports Studies

If you want to build on your love of sport for a rewarding career or move on to higher qualifications, Uxbridge College is the place to come. Our lecturers all have backgrounds working in the sport, health and fitness industry, many as coaches and some as professional sports people. We operate specialised Sporting Academies which are linked to major clubs and offer coaching from club professionals. Our students get the chance to use the area's world-class sporting facilities, and you will get all the support you need to excel in both the practical and academic aspects of your subject.

In 2007 we achieved over 90% success rates in all our courses.

Who are these courses for?
You are sure to enjoy sporting activities and may be looking for a job in a health club or leisure centre, or want to take up other roles in the thriving health and fitness industry. Or you may want to move on and take further qualifications.

What kind of environment will I be learning in?
The College's Sporting Academies for football, rugby, cricket, netball and basketball give you a chance to specialise and learn under professional coaches from major sports clubs. Students also use the world-class sports facilities at the University of Brunel and Hillingdon Athletics Stadium on a regular basis. Uxbridge College also has gyms at both Uxbridge and Hayes campuses. All students wear a College tracksuit to promote personal discipline and a professional image.

What kind of training will I get through these courses?
Courses in sport and fitness are based around real, practical skills, but you will also benefit from academic learning. Whatever your starting point, these courses offer students the resources to become great all-rounders - as well as covering physical training and fitness, courses include the relevant theoretical areas such as nutrition and the psychology of performance. Our students also get the chance to learn coaching skills in the community as part of programmes offered to local children.

What would these courses qualify me to do?
In addition to careers in the sport and fitness industries, these qualifications can also enable you to go on to higher study.

Are there any part-time courses available in this area?
Uxbridge College also offers part-time study in fitness instruction - details are available in our Part-Time Courses prospectus.
