Role of Governors
The governing body of the College, known as the Corporation, determines the educational character of the College and ensures its overall well-being and financial health. The specific responsibilities of the board members are to:
- determine the educational character and mission of the College and ensure that there are effective means of monitoring whether the College management is fulfilling the mission
- ensure the effective and efficient use of resources, the solvency of the College and safeguard its assets
- approve annual estimates of income and expenditure
- oversee the appointment, grading, suspension, dismissal, determination of pay and conditions of the Senior Post Holders and the Clerk to the Corporation
- set a framework for the pay and conditions of service of all other staff
The Board has sixteen members - The Principal, two members elected by the staff, two members elected by the students, one member from the local authority and ten members who are or have been engaged in business, industry or a profession.
The Board has set up a number of committees to assist in performing its tasks. These include Audit, Finance, Human Resources, Performance & Standards, Student Affairs and Search. The Search Committee deals with the recruitment and appointment of governors, their training and development. Click here to download a copy of the Terms of Reference.

The Corporation has also approved a policy regarding attendance at committee meeting by non-members and the publications of committee meetings on the college website.
