Apprenticeships
WORK - EARN - LEARN WITH AN APPRENTICESHIP
Apprenticeships are designed for people aged 16-24 who are in employment.
What criteria do I have to meet to become an apprentice?
In paid employment (minimum of 30 hours a week) in a suitable workplace. If you are not working you can contact the Employer Services Team for job search advice and assistance.
You must be committed and motivated to work and train with a local employer.
You must satisfactorily complete a Basic Skills Assessment (some subjects also require good GCSE grades).
Where does the training take place?
Primarily in the workplace, however, all subjects require some time at college, usually, but not always, once a week for theory to underpin knowledge gained at work.
- An assessor from the College will visit your workplace at agreed periods to carry out reviews, and to offer support and guidance where needed.
What is involved?
You must work towards the following three elements to gain the full apprenticeship:
- A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at either Level 2 or 3
- Key Skills - which includes Application of Number, Communication Skills and IT
- A relevant Technical Certificate if required.
Cost?
If you are aged between 16 and 18 then the apprenticeship program is FREE to the apprentice and the employer.
If you are 19-24 then the apprenticeship program is FREE to the apprentice, however, a fee contribution is required from the employer.
