Public Services

Public Services

The Public services courses provide an excellent start for anyone considering joining the armed forces, police, or other public services. Right from induction week, which includes a two-night camping trip with hiking and team building, these courses put you on track for the career you have chosen. Students are required to wear uniform and do drill exercises. The Public Services motto is "To achieve is to succeed".

Who are these courses for?

These courses are for anyone interested in joining any of the following services:

  • Police force
  • Armed Forces - The British Army, Royal Navy including Royal Marines, and RAF (Royal Air Force)
  • Fire service
  • Prison service
  • Ambulance service
  • Revenue and Customs
  • Private security industry

What kind of environment will I be learning in?
These courses are tailor-made to give you the knowledge and experience you need to successfully apply to the forces and other public services including:

Physical fitness and experience taking part in outdoor activities
Students go on three or four overnight residential stays during their courses, and spend a number of days doing outdoor activities. All students do drill and physical training - fitness is essential in all the public services.

Hands-on knowledge of the Forces and emergency services
The College has strong links with all the Forces, and the courses include residential stays with the British Army and Navy. Public Services courses at Uxbridge College are sponsored by the British Army and officers visit to give talks to students. Every year the College holds a disaster emergency simulation day that all the emergency services attend.

Teamwork skills
All the armed forces and emergency services rely completely on their officers working as a team. You will learn what makes a team work, how to support others in your team, and how to behave as an individual within a team.

Discipline
The Forces and emergency services are strict on punctuality, attendance, and meeting deadlines - and so are we. You will be taught to behave the way you will be expected to in your chosen area.

What would these courses qualify me to do?
In addition to preparing you to join the Public Services, many students go on to further study including university-level Higher Education courses after completing their courses.
