Fees and costs
Whether you are changing your profession or gaining a new skill, Uxbridge College is ready to assist you. We are aware of the considerable investment - in time as well as money - that this can involve. We want to match that investment and share your commitment, and support you on your new endeavour.
College Registration Fees
All students aged 19 or over are required to pay the College Registration Fee of £25.00 for a part-time course and £30.00 for a full-time course, regardless of whether a course fee or concessionary fee is payable or not. This single charge covers as many Part Time Courses or classes as you wish to take until July 2011. There is no registration fee for one-day courses.
Tuition Fee
For students aged 19 and over studying on a full-time course tuition fees are payable. The tuition fee for 2010/11 was £1,370. If you are on a means-tested benefit or your primary learning aim is basic education or English for speakers of other languages, this fee may be waived. In addition, if you are studying for your first full Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) qualification there are no tuition fees. Documented evidence is required. For further information please contact course enquiries.
Part time tuition fees differ per course. Please contact the Information, Advice & Guidance team for more information.
If a tuition fee is payable, this must be paid at the time of enrolment. Please remember that some courses run over a two year period, and the course fee is payable on an annual basis unless otherwise stated.
Concessionary fees
For some courses, concessionary fees are available. Free remission may be granted for those who are:
- receiving unemployment benefit or job seekers allowance (or future equivalent)
- receiving a means-tested benefit
- unwaged dependents of those receiving any of the above
- taking programmes where the primary learning goal is Adult Basic Education or English Speakers of Other Languages.
Students are required to submit documentary evidence that they are in receipt of a means-tested benefit. Submission of an ES40 is not sufficient and will not be accepted by the College.
For those who are receiving unemployment benefit, job seekers allowance or a means tested benefit, entitlement to benefit may be affected. It is advisable for students to check with their local benefits office, or with Student Support at the college. If you feel you qualify for concessionary fees, you are asked to call in person at our Uxbridge Campus.
Examination and Examination Registration Fees
These are payable by all students, including those entitled to concessionary fees and are included within the full course fee (except where fees are payable direct to the Awarding Body). In the case of any query, please contact the Student Records Office on
01895 853354 / 853356.
International Students
Overseas Students (ie. non UK/EU residents) are required to pay the full cost of their tuition and all course fees are payable on an annual basis.
Please check with course enquiries on +44 (0)1895 853333 for more details.
Fee Refunds
FULL TIME
The College will only refund fees in two instances:
- if the course is cancelled, when fees will be refunded in full, or
- if a student withdraws from a full-time course before the second week of the start of the course. In this case, the College will require notification in writing stating the student's enrolment number. If the withdrawal is for medical reasons a doctor's certificate is required.
In the case of withdrawals, course fees will be refunded, less the College registration fee and a £20 administration charge.
PART TIME
Should the College close a course due to insufficient numbers, a full refund of fees will be granted.
If you withdraw from your course, fee refunds will not be awarded from one week before the scheduled start date for most courses. For courses with a 'C' in the fee column, there can be a refund if the student gives notification of their withdrawal from a course before the second session. Students will be entitled to a refund or partial refund of the course fees paid less:
- a charge of the proportion of tuition hours delivered (at the date of the refund request) taken at a pro-rate of total course hours
- the College registration fee
- the I.D card fee
- the fee for any examinations already entered
- a £20 administration charge.
Other refund requests are made at the discretion of the relevant Curriculum Director.
Material Fees and Other Costs
These are payable by all students, including those entitled to concessionary fees and are included within the full course fee. In some instances, students may be responsible for the purchase of special workwear/equipment in addition to the course fee. In the case of any query, please contact the Student Records Office on 01895 853354 / 853356.
I.D. Card Charges
All students (except ESOL students) are required to pay a fee of £5 for their I.D. pass. All students need a valid I.D. in order to gain access to both Campuses. Replacement I.D. passes carry a £10 charge.
Car Parking Charges
The College has parking on both sites and a charge is payable by all full-time students who wish to park their car in the College car parks. The fee for 2010/11 is £120 for full time students and £60 for part time students for the academic year. On payment of this charge, you will be issued with a permit which must be displayed in your windscreen. This permit entitles the holder to park in the car park but does not guarantee a parking space.
There is no charge for evening or Saturday students. There is a fee of £2.50 for replacement permits.
Payment
Fees can be paid in cash, cheque with guarantee card number, postal order and all major credit and debit cards. All fees are payable at enrolment.
Payments should not be sent with application form if the course requires an interview. In this case pay at enrolment.
Professional and Career Development Loans
Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans that can be used to help pay for work related learning. You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year's relevant unpaid practical work). The Young People's Learning Agency will pay the interest on the loan while you are learning and for one month afterwards.
The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses. You can also use the loan to supplement other forms of support such as grants or bursaries.Because the Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, they should only be considered as an option once all other student funding options have been investigated.
