If you need to hire new staff or train your existing employees, apprentices can work for your business.

The government's Apprenticeship Reforms makes it even easier to employ an apprentice, so talk to us about how we can help you plan your recruitment and training. We will advise you on developing an apprenticeship scheme that fits with your recruitment and workforce development strategy, drives your company forward, increases productivity and provides skilled talent to address your skills gaps.

We are rated outstanding by Ofsted and have an extensive high quality apprenticeship programme which has been developed in response to employer demand. We are the largest college provider of apprenticeships in west London with some of the highest success rates working across more than 20 different industries. Our screening and selection processes ensure that we find the right talent for your business or enable your existing employees to become apprentices.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is a combination of employment and a work-based qualifications and a great way to gain fresh talent and keep staff costs lower. Apprentices are employed by you, paid a small wage and spend most of their time in your workplace gaining job specific skills, plus attend college (usually one day per week).

An apprentice must be paid a minimum wage of £3.40* and usually work at least 30 hours a week inclusive of college attendance. An apprenticeship must last for a minimum of 12 months.

* First year apprentice minimum wage £3.40 per hour - Second year £4.00 if you are aged under 18, £5.55 if you are aged 18-20, £6.95 if you are aged 21-24 and in-line with the National Living Wage of £7.20 if you are over 25.

Training Costs

New reforms come into effect from April 2017. Until then the National Apprenticeship Service provides the following funding:
  • They cover 100% of the cost of Apprenticeship training if the apprentice is aged 16–18 years old
  • Up to 50% of the cost of the training if the apprentice is aged 19 – 24
  • A contribution to the cost of the training if the apprentice is aged 25 or older.

Recruiting an Apprentice

There are two ways you can employ an apprentice:
  • Enrol your new or existing staff onto an apprenticeship (subject to eligibility)
  • Select a pre-screened Uxbridge College candidate.

We will assist you in identifying and recruiting apprentices for your business as well as those existing job roles you could convert into an apprenticeship.
