Students from Uxbridge College have raised more than £1,200 to help families in developing countries through a sponsored walk.

Over 100 students from Uxbridge College took part in a fundraising sponsored walk on 5 May, raising money for the charity Send A Cow, to help buy cattle and a farm for families in Uganda.

116 students were joined by staff from the College to walk the 5 miles between the Uxbridge and Hayes campuses. Students dressed in black and white carrying giant cow balloons as they walked along the Uxbridge Road with collection tins to raise awareness of the charity.

The students crossed the finishing line on the Hayes Campus met by a welcome party led by staff from the Student Support team who provided drinks to refresh the walkers.

The event was organised by Katharine Dent, Course Team Leader for Business, and business studies students, who planned and arranged the sponsored walk as part of their Community Action module. Ann Rattue, ambassador from Send A Cow, also joined in the fun and visited the students beforehand to talk about the charity's work.

Katharine said: "The students have worked really hard to organise the walk and raise sponsorship, taking on board one of Send A Cow's key messages - "walking a short distance here to make a big difference in Africa". We are really pleased that so many people have supported us to help raise funds for the fantastic work that Send A Cow do to support African farmers."

The total raised so far is £1,201 but sponsorship money is still rolling in. If you would like to support the charity you can donate via http://www.justgiving.com/Katharine-Dent
