An Uxbridge College apprenticeship student has been honoured as part of a national competition.

Madiha Rizvi, who studied towards an Advanced Apprenticeship in Customer Service, was chosen as a runner-up in the Advanced Apprentice category of the National Skills for London Awards. The awards are run by the National Apprenticeship Service.

Madiha is a Meetings and Events Planner at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington - the work she does there and the new skills she has learnt at College contributed towards her qualification. She has succeeded despite battling illness during her studies. Madiha is going on to do a degree level course through the Open University.

Harpal Lehal, Head of Employer Services at Uxbridge College, said: "This award highlights the terrific achievements of Madiha, and other Apprentices, who are improving their skills through successfully completing work-related qualifications at the same time as earning a living. She has worked extremely hard and it is a real tribute to her capabilities and motivation."
