Uxbridge College student Jack Thornborough entered the debate on university places live on Sky News.

Uxbridge College student Jack Thornborough entered the debate about the competition for university places when he appeared live on Sky News.

Jack, who was interviewed by Jayne Secker alongside Alan Whittaker from the University and College Union, talked about his experiences as an A Level student applying to university.

Jack (18), has taken A Levels in biology, chemistry and maths, and hopes to start a BSc in Biochemistry at Queen Mary, University of London, or at Reading University in October.

Jack said: "It was a great experience to appear on live television although it was pretty nerve-racking as you did not know exactly what they were going to ask. The competition for university places has definitely affected me and other students at Uxbridge College - even people expecting high grades won't necessarily get onto the degree they want. But if you work hard and make the most of your opportunities at college, you can succeed."

Jack also appeared in the Evening Standard discussing the same subject, along with Sailley Saleh, who is also studying biology, chemistry and maths.
