Uxbridge College Becomes a Member of the National Skills Academy for Retail

retail-for-webUxbridge College has gained approval from the National Skills Academy for Retail to create a retail skills shop.

Businesses in Uxbridge and neighbouring areas will have an opportunity to access the latest advice and training available for the retail sector with Uxbridge College's brand new retail skills shop.

The College has gained approval from the National Skills Academy for Retail to create a retail skills shop - one of only 39 in the UK. Retail skills shops are one-stop venues offering businesses and individuals the chance to access free information and advice about training and courses that are relevant to the retail sector. Retail skills shops are also easily accessible for retailers as they are based right on their doorstep in the high street or in a local shopping centre.

Uxbridge College will have the only retail skills shop with exclusive geographical coverage from Berkshire through to Ealing and surrounding areas. The retail skills shop will provide specialist training to retailers plus help them to directly employ apprentices and also enable them to hire an apprentice through the College's Apprentice Training Agency. Businesses can access training including customer service, management qualifications, plus a range of courses tailored to their specific requirements such as first aid, health & safety, personal licensee holder and more.

The College already successfully runs many of these courses at its campuses in Uxbridge and Hayes but it will also be running training from a new skills store - soon to open in a central Uxbridge location - making it even more convenient for retailers to use our services.

As a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail the College can directly focus on providing retailers with the advice, guidance and training support they need to help them:

* Recruit well qualified people straight into retail positions

* Gain information about hiring and employing apprentices and work experience opportunities

* Access training to update and develop the skills of existing staff, ensuring they have professional retail qualifications

* Train staff to a high level with courses at university level that are designed to meet the needs of the retail sector

* Get expert knowledge through exclusive training packages and tailored master classes designed by leading retail marketing consultant Mary Portas

* Fill vacancies for permanent, temporary and seasonal positions.

Lorraine Collins, Executive Director - Enterprise & Development, said: "Uxbridge College already supplies key training support to employers across west London and this national recognition helps cement our reputation in this area.

Even in the current economic climate the retail sector has grown by 6% over the last year and is more in need of top quality trained staff than ever.

As a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail, Uxbridge College aims to provide even more focused support for our local retailers."
