
Triumphant players - eight of the 12 Uxbridge College students who competed in the borough chess tournament.
Uxbridge College students have won the Hillingdon Secondary School Chess Championship for the second year running.Uxbridge College, which has campuses in Uxbridge and Hayes, entered two teams and so did Bishop Ramsey – the competition hosts - Uxbridge High and Harefield Academy. Competition was fierce and many games were very closely fought.
Uxbridge College’s first team won achieving 118 points, with Bishop Ramsey’s first team coming second with 104 points. Uxbridge College’s second team came third with 63 points.
Ray Ferris, Director of 14-19 Programmes at Uxbridge College and team coach, said: “We are delighted to win this competition for the second year running and I’m very proud of our students. It’s good to see such passion for chess in Hillingdon and I was very impressed with the standard of play across the board. The College has also come second in the West London Secondary School competition two years running and I’m very pleased with the progress we’ve made.”
