Cultures come together to celebrate

Students of all nationalities brought traditional food, music, dress and dance to an end of term party.

Ethiopia, Somalia and Afghanistan were among the many countries represented at the event at Uxbridge College's Hayes Community Campus.

The ESOL (English for Speakers of other Languages) students got together on 19 December to celebrate their cultures, friendship and achievements.

Afghani student Mohammad Karim Farhad played on keyboards and sang, accompanied by his son on the drum machine.

Many people brought along traditional dishes to add to the food provided by the School of English Language Teaching.

Staff also joined in the fun with Giles Strachan dressing up as an elf and Piers Gledhill as Father Christmas.

Giles, ESOL Section Manager for Outreach, said: "It was great to see everyone together - they come from such diverse backgrounds and all have something different to offer. These students really make the best of the opportunities offered to them in and out of College and are a great example to us all."
