Uxbridge College entrepreneurs enter the University of Westminster's 'business den'

Young entrepreneurs from Uxbridge College stepped into their own version of TV's Dragon's Den - pitching some of their money-making schemes to business students at the University of Westminster.

Twenty-one BTEC National Diploma and National Certificate business students, who had been coached by student mentors from the University over the last year, took part in the Westminster Business Den at the University's Harrow site on 19 March. They were judged by students from the University's Harrow Business School, and took home prizes including £65 shopping vouchers and goodie bags.

Five groups of students presented their ideas before facing questions from the panel on the inventions. The winning team, Diva Style Heels, invented a women's shoe with a removable high heel.

The event took place in the University's media centre, with media undergraduates recording the event as if it was a real television show.

Martyn Silver, Section Manager for Vocational Business at Uxbridge College, said: "This was a great opportunity for Uxbridge College's business students to not only get practical experience of working on a business project, but to find out more about life at University as well.

"The undergraduate mentors from the University of Westminster have helped inspire the students both in their studies and in terms of considering staying on in Higher Education."
