International opponents meet Uxbridge footballers

Uxbridge College's footballers met opponents from the other side of the world in a match against an Australian team.

Uxbridge College Football Academy played Australia IFG (International Football Academy) at Hillingdon Athletics Stadium on 5 December.

IFG's visit was part of a 15 day football tour of Holland, Belgium, Germany and England.

The tour is designed to develop the player's experience through international matches, training/coaching program and lectures, whilst showcasing their talent to professional clubs.

The match itself saw each team showcasing their football skills and abilities to a large crowd that had gathered on the sidelines. IFG led 2-1 towards the latter stages of the match but a determined Uxbridge Academy side snatched a late goal to ensure that the honours were even at the final whistle. The final score was 2-2.

Good sportsmanship from both sets of teams delivered a good education in other football styles and cultures that each team could learn from, as well as an entertaining match.

Dan Lloyd, Head of Sport at Uxbridge College, said: "It was a great opportunity for our players to test their skills against a team of high standard from the other side of the world. Our lads really enjoyed the match and relished the chance to play against international opposition."
