Business students help fund water pump in Africa

Business students taking part in a challenge to raise money generated £477 to help children in Africa.

As part of Enterprise Week, the students had to come up with a business plan to make the highest profit possible on selling bottled water for the One Water charity.

The students on the BTEC Introductory and First Diploma in Business courses smashed their initial target of £250, selling water to staff and students.

£1,000 raised for the charity pays for a 'play-pump' - a water pump that doubles up as a merry-go-round and is powered by children playing on it.

Katharine Dent, team leader in Vocational Business at Uxbridge College, said: "I'd like to thank everyone who contributed, supported and helped us to reach this total and say how proud I am of all of the students who took part. They all worked exceptionally hard and showed great commitment and enthusiasm throughout.

"It is brilliant to see business students using their skills and creativity to benefit others - and they were thrilled to see exactly where the money was going."
