Students raised around £500 by giving hair cuts, blow dries and mini-manicures to around 40 clients, as well as holding a cake sale and other events.
The money raised at the 'Cutathon' event on 6 February will help cover the costs of students entering a national hairdressing and beauty therapy competition.
The AHT (Association of Hairdressers and Therapists) competition gives the trainees a chance to put their skills in hair-styling and make-up against others from around the country.
In previous years Uxbridge College has won prizes in AHT regional and national finals. In 2007 Mesrak Kaleab (20), came second in the Afro Caribbean Hair section in the national finals, and in 2007 and 2008 students also took part in the national finals after winning in regional heats. A total of around £1,500 is needed to cover entry fees and travel costs for 2009 and further fundraising activities are being held.
Leesa Brown, from Greenford, who had a cut and blow dry from Sophia Steers (17), said: "She has done a really good job and is really professional - and it's much, much cheaper than going to the hairdresser. It's also nice to give the girls a chance to practice and take part in competitions."
Derry Moody, Section Manager Hairdressing at Uxbridge College, said: "This event was a great opportunity for members of the public to get a bargain hair cut or blow dry from one of our young stylists and help them prepare for their careers in the process. As in previous years we have some strong contenders for this national event and we are determined to raise the money for them to compete."
