Students in Dragon's Den style competition

A microchipped bracelet for children which enables parents to track their movements was the winner of a 'Dragon's Den' style competition at Uxbridge College.

The Business Den challenge gave teams of students the chance to pit their entrepreneurial ideas against each other.

The winners of the Business School Challenge Trophy were team Prodigy, consisting of Year 1 BTEC National Business students Eduard Mincu, Nasrat Mustan, Yahya Gajari and Kanda Ahmed.

Their product was called 'Peek-A-Boo,' a range of silver-coated stainless steel bracelets which work via a GPS system on mobile phones.

A total of 26 students from Year 1 BTEC National Diploma and BTEC National Certificate Business courses took part in the event.

Students were mentored by older Year 2 BTEC National Diploma Business students Mohamed Mohamed, Sunil Lubhaya, Lahangeer Khan, Bharat Luhar and Sandesh Kochher who had taken part in the challenge in previous years.

On the judging panel were:
Rabi Martins, Executive Director of Business Support Services, Heathrow City Partnership Ltd
Martyn Silver, Section Manager - Vocational Business
Swaran Johal, Course Team Leader - Vocational Business
Diane Reade, Enrichment Officer
Sharon Jenkins, School Administrator.

Mr Martins also gave students a brief talk about taking their business ideas further.

Suzannie Thomas, Business Lecturer, said: "This was a great opportunity for business students to test their entrepreneurial creativity and apply the skills they have learned on their courses. We teach them right from the start that business is something which happens in the real world, so our courses are excellent preparation for them to find the jobs they want - or go on to university or other further study."
