Student Katherine Wallis was used as an extra during filming of Pete Versus Life, as well as styling the model for the scene.Uxbridge College students have appeared in an episode of the Channel 4 comedy Pete Versus Life, starring Rafe Spall.
One episode of the show, which is on its second season, included footage filmed at the College’s Hayes Community Campus, including in the theatre. These facilities are normally used by students on dance, drama and production arts courses, as well as for community events.
The episode features a fashion show, and around 20 performing arts students were used as extras during filming.
One media student, Ben Eames, worked with the production team on various aspects of the project over the three days, getting a real insight into the technical elements of filming for TV.
Two hair styling students also worked with the production company’s hair and make-up department, with Katherine Wallis also being used as an extra – styling hair - in the filming of the backstage area of the fashion show.
Rachel Lane, Performing Arts Section Manager, said: “There are so many opportunities within Performing Arts and the qualifications we offer provide our learners with a fantastic head start as well as a true insight into how the industry works.
“Uxbridge College presents great advantages for students in and around the area, and with our location being so near to both Central London and Pinewood Studios, we have been able to build good links within the film and television industry.”
Pete Versus Life tells the story of a well-meaning but emotionally immature man struggling to make a living as a sports journalist, who lacks the necessary social antenna even when trying to do the right thing.
* Pete Versus Life is on Channel 4 at 10.10pm on Friday nights and can also be viewed on Channel 4 On Demand on the internet.
