Entry Requirements

One arts related A Level, or equivalent, plus four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English.

Who is the course for

This course is for students seeking to secure places on BA (Hons) Art & Design or HND level courses. This diagnostic course bridges the gap between A Levels or the Extended Diploma and degree level study.

Course Content

The course has a very broad-based content that allows students to experience a range of art and design subjects including:
  • Fine art and sculpture
  • Fashion, textile and graphic design
  • Photography and video
  • 3D design (product and interior/spactial)
  • Computer aided design (Applemac)
  • Contemporary and contextual studies
All students will be expected to experiment through a variety of art & design disciplines in the exploratory stage.

In the second term, students select a specialism to study in more depth. The final period of study on the course focuses on a self-managed project relating to the specialist area chosen.

The course links to a compact scheme with Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion where selected students may attend portfolio advice days and pre-interview for UCAS for progression to higher education courses.

Study Methods

How is the course assessed

Progress is assessed continuously and competence must be proved in all areas of study before the full award is granted. Two core units and the final major project until will be assessed externally at the end of the year.

Students progress onto Level 4 during this course.
