Entry Requirements

  • Five GCSEs including grade C or above in both mathematics and English
  • A good school report showing good attendance and behaviour
  • Adult students without GCSEs will be required to sit numeracy and literacy tests.

Who is the course for

Students who wish to gain a professional qualification and are aiming to be employed in an accounting or financial environment or students with a keen interest in business and how it operates. This course can lead to further study or employment

Course Content

Students must study a number of business and accountancy units including:
  • Basic accounting
  • Basic costing
  • Business purposes
  • Business organisations
  • People in organisations
  • Business ethics
  • Starting a small business
Students will also study Level 2 Functional Skills

Study Methods

Lectures, IT workshops, discussions group and individual work.

In addition to College attendance, students must be prepared to commit at least five hours study time per week.

How is the course assessed

BTEC-Assessment is 100% course work and may include: oral examination, class tests, reports, role play or presentations.

AAT- Computer based examinations.

Successful students can apply to move on to Level 3 AAT Diploma in Accounting or Level 3 BTEC in Business
