Entry Requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and mathematics or equivalent
or
  • Successful completion of a Foundation Learning course, in a related subject, including English and mathematics
  • A good school report showing good attendance and behaviour.

Who is the course for

For students looking to progress from either a level 1 or level 2 qualification onto a level 2 or level 3 qualification respectively that have a passion for both business and/or retail. Learners may either have a desire to work in retail or for a particular retail organisation or be currently working part time or have previous experience of working in retail.

Course Content

Students must study a number of business units including:

Core units:
  • Business purposes
  • Business organisations
  • Customer relations
  • Promoting and branding in retail business
Plus other units including:
  • Retail knowledge
  • Retail security
  • Visual merchandising
  • Fashion retail
Students will also study Level 2 Functional Skills in:
  • English

Study Methods

Lectures, workshops and assignments.

Unit assignments - pass, merit or distinction

Where next - Further Studies

Successful completion of level 2 can allow learners to progress onto either further study at level 3 on either general business or business and retail or possibly undertake a level 3 apprenticeship.

Where next - Job Opportunities

Successful completion of the qualification provides learners with evidence of appropriate understanding at either level 2 or level 3 in both general business and retail specific subjects which can be utilised with in the work place. These may include opportunities at level 2 for customer service, stock control, administration and visual merchandising.
