Who is the course for
The course is designed for anyone interested in pursuing a career with children aged 0-8 in a variety of work settings.Course Content
The course is designed to provide an introduction to childcare. To work with children you will need to go on to study a Level 2 course. You will be considered for a Level 2 course if you achieve well throughout the course, showing academic and personal ability to study at a higher level.Core units:
- Personal development
- Communication skills
- Individual rights and responsibilities
- Parenting awareness
- Dealing with problems in daily life
- Human growth and development
- Caring for children: physical, emotional and intellectual development.
During the course, students will attend a two week work placement either in a nursery/infant class or a day nursery, where they will be able to practise their developing practical skills in all aspects of childcare and education, working alongside a supervisor.
Students spend 17 hours each week in College and learn underpinning knowledge in a variety of childcare and education based topics.
Students will also study Functional Skills as part of this course.
