Entry Requirements

  • Level 3 qualification, or equivalent, in a computer related subject
or
  • A minimum of one A Level in mathematics, physics, engineering science, computer science, electronic systems or similar
  • Supporting GCSE passes including satisfactory competence in English and mathematics. Students with appropriate educational/ technical background (e.g.
Advanced GNVQ/NVQ, other qualifications, such as science/technology, Access Courses will be considered individually if they can show commitment and potential.

Students with overseas qualifications are also welcome and will be considered individually.

Who is the course for

This course is for those who wish to develop high levels of technical competence for careers in computer programming, systems analysis, networking engineering, database analysis and design, technical support, software engineering or business management

Course Content

The BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Computing and Systems Development is a two-year programme, which requires the successful completion of units with a total value of 16 units. There are four mandatory units and 12 optional units.

Mandatory units:
  • Business Skills for e-commerce
  • Computer Systems
  • Employability & Professional Development
  • Product Design, Implementation and Evaluation
Specialist units will include:
  • System Analysis & Design
  • Web Design
  • Procedural Programming
  • Information Systems in Organisations
  • Digital Image Creation and Development
  • Quality Systems in IT
  • Data Analysis and Design
  • Data Structure and Algorithms
  • Networking Security
  • Local Area Networking Technologies
  • Information Systems in Organisations - 2nd year
  • Web Creation and Management
The course will also develop a broad range of transferable skills, which include communicating, team work, planning & organising, problem solving, IT skills and numerical techniques.

Examination body: Edexcel

Study Methods

Lectures, group work, assignments, presentations and workshops.

Assessment is through a series of assignments including written assignments, group work and presentations
