Entry Requirements

Who is the course for

This course provides two study pathways for school leavers and young adults with moderate learning difficulties who are interested in:
  • Business Enterprise and Retail
or
  • Catering

Course Content

The Edexcel Certificate in Independence and Work (Entry 2) modules include:

Skills for Independence and Work - Business Enterprise:
  • Planning an enterprise activity
  • Running an enterprise activity
  • Producing a product.
Skills for Independence and Work - Catering:
  • Hygiene and safety in the kitchen
  • Shopping for daily life
  • Basic cooking.
Functional Skills will be studied at the appropriate level:
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • ICT.
Students may go on a work placement which can be supported by our Employment Coach if necessary.

Students will work as individuals, in pairs and as small groups.

Study Methods

Individual, pairs and small group work.

How is the course assessed

Assessment:
  • The courses are assessed through portfolios, presentations and examinations specific to the subject area studied.
Support:
  • Students are supported in class, at lunch and break times, and on off-site activities by our team of learning support assistants. We are also able to support on a one to one basis where required and provide Communication Support Workers.

Where next - Further Studies

Throughout the year the course tutors will help you to prepare for your next step when you complete the course. You may be able to progress to another course within the School of Foundation Studies or vocational courses within the College.
