Health & Social Care

“I really want to do psychology or nursing at university so my course covers this.  On the course I have got to know more about the area and I am learning skills and techniques.  The teachers are helpful and there is a big difference from where I was when I started, compared to where I am now.  They talk about their experiences and one of the teachers who was a nurse has given us practical advice.  The best bit about my course is that it provides lots of information and I am getting lots of skills which will help me go to university.  After that I would like to get a job specialising in psychology.

I found out about the College on the internet and I decided to come here as it is a top college and students who attend Uxbridge are likely to succeed.  I like the environment and the people here are nice and encouraging.  The facilities are good, there are lots of computers available and the Learning Resource Centres are flexible which helps you to do your work on time.

I get to socialise with my classmates and I have made some new friends.  As the only male in my group I felt a bit out of place at first but I have got used to it.  I would recommend the course – especially for men as it is good to have more of them in Health and Social Care!”

People who train in health & social care at the College have an excellent record of progressing into jobs from their courses and many also choose to go into higher education.  The courses provide a real life experience of working in a variety of roles within health & social care.  Theory is combined with practical work so students are prepared to go into the workplace with the right skills.  Work placements are an important part of the course, offering the opportunity to put learning into practice in a variety of organisations, including social services, nursing homes and day centres.

Teaching staff have had experience in many different health & social care roles so you can find out first hand what it is like to be involved in the sector.  Their advice will provide you with great tips and knowledge to perfect your skills in work placements.
