  • Four GCSEs grade D or above, preferably in English, science and mathematics
or
  • Successful completion of a Foundation Learning course, in a related subject, including English and mathematics.

Who is the course for

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma has been designed to provide a broad education as a basis for further training, further and higher education or for moving into employment in health & social care.

Students develop the general skills, knowledge and understanding that underpin a range of occupations or professions.

Course Content

Students will study the following units:
Core units:
  • Communication in health & social care
  • Individual rights in health & social care
  • Individual needs in health & social care
  • Ensuring safe environments in health & social care.
Specialist units:
  • Vocational experience in health & social care
  • Human life-span development
  • Anatomy and physiology for health & social care
  • The impact of diet on health
  • Certificate in WorkSkills.

Study Methods

Theroy and practical sessions, group discussions and individual research.

How is the course assessed

Assessment for the course includes assignments, practical work, oral presentations and a functional skills exam.

Where next - Further Studies

Students can go on to study the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care or the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Childcare & Education.

Where next - Job Opportunities

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a good basis for work in some areas of residential care, health care or community work.
