Public Services
“My brother did a Public Services course at the College and is in the RAF and I want to follow in his footsteps. I found out more about what life is really like from him, and one of our tutors is also ex-RAF so it is the same here. The course is relevant to what I want to do in life so it is a good choice for me. I have wanted to join the RAF for as long as I can remember, and I think if you do this course, you have an advantage if you apply to the forces.
We do three runs a week and I can feel the benefits. You have to get up early – we are the first in college and even beat some of the staff in. We’ve been on some camping trips, you learn to be prepared and you get used to the conditions. The course can be hard, but it’s worth it.”
Students are involved in practical exercises from the start of the course in induction week, where a residential two night camping trip with hiking and team building will put you on track for the career you have chosen.
Fitness is essential and you will undertake regular fitness and drill exercises at 8.00am, and are required to wear a uniform. Discipline, attendance and meeting deadlines are important qualities for anyone planning a career in the Public Services and teamwork will play an important part of the course.
Many students go on to successful careers in the services and our courses also prepare you to go on to higher education.
