Entry Requirements

GCSEs Grade E and above in Maths & English or equivalent Level 2 qualification.

A good level of English is required.

Who is the course for

The course includes electrical principles, how to wire and maintain intruder alarms plus inspecting and testing.

Course Content

001 Electrical & Electronic Principles in Electrotechnical Environments:

1. Basic SI units and quantities.

2. Basic electrical principles, formulae, calculations, understanding the use of measuring equipment in electrical and electronic circuitry.

3. Basic electrical applications, principles of fault protection, principles of system installation, maintenance and fault identification.

4. Basic data transmission and information technology systems.

002 Working Effectively and Safely in Electrotechnical Environments:

1. Safe systems of working.

2. Statutory regulations, codes of practice and memorandum of guidance relevant to maintaining a safe working environment.

3. Technical information and data supplied for working effectively and safely.

004 Intruder Alarm Systems

1. Understanding the architecture of Intrusion and Hold-up alarm systems with respect to the protection of buildings.

2. Understanding the component parts of intrusion alarm detection devices.

3.. Understanding the features and components of intruder and hold up alarm control and indicating equipment CIE.

4. Understanding how Detection Devices, Control and Indicating Equipment and Ancillary Control Equipment ACE combine with buildings structure to provide protection against an intruder.

5. Understanding the process of surveying, design, quotation and management of Intruder and Hold up Alarm Systems.

6. Understanding the process of testing, commissioning and auditing Intruder and Hold-up Alarm Systems.

Study Methods

Lectures, tutorials, assignments, and practical tasks.

How is the course assessed

Assessment will take place in the second year of the course and will comprise of:

  • Multiple choice on-line exams.
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment

Where next - Further Studies

On successful completion of the first year you will proceed onto the second year of this course scheduled to run from September - October 2015 (8 weeks).

Please note that there will be an additional fee for the second year.

This qualification would enable you to progress onto further level 3 C&G courses where you could specialize in either Access Control, CCTV and/or Fire Alarms.
