BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport

Entry Requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and science
or
  • Successful completion of a Foundation Learning course, in a related subject,
including English and mathematics
  • You will need to provide a good school report/ reference.
Students who have been out of education for a while do not need some of the above formal qualifications if their background and experience
are appropriate.

Students should also be passionate about sport and be prepared to undertake a variety of sporting and fitness activities.

Who is the course for

This course is for those interested in a sport or fitness related career, or keen to progress onto a higher education course.

Course Content

Students will study the following modules:
  • Fitness testing and training
  • Practical sport
  • Outdoor and adventurous activities
  • Anatomy and physiology for sport
  • Planning and leading sports activities
  • Technical skills and tactical awareness for sport
  • Exercise and fitness instruction.
You will also have the opportunity to study for the Central YMCA Level 1 Assistant Fitness Instructor Award, and other various Level 1 coaching qualifications (at an additional cost).

Study Methods

Lectures, workshops, group work, practical sessions and work experience.

How is the course assessed

Assignments throughout the course including reports, projects, presentations, practical work, oral work and time constrained assignments. Some modules have written tests.

Where next - Further Studies

High achievers (merit/distinction) may progress onto the Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness).

Where next - Job Opportunities

Leisure attendant, assistant fitness instructor and other roles in the health and fitness industry.
