Models showcased vintage-inspired hair designs by hairstyling trainees at Uxbridge College in a catwalk show.

Young hairdressers from Uxbridge College gave vintage styling a modern twist in a showcase of their work.

The trainees created hairstyles inspired by the 1930s, 40s and 50s at the Generations of Glamour show on 18 January and awards were given out for the best styles. Steve Levitt owner of Visage Hair and Beauty of Ealing gave a demo of the vintage-inspired trends during the show.

Awards presented at the event at Hayes Community Campus, off Coldharbour Lane, Hayes, were sponsored by REM, Dennis Williams, GE Betterton and Rand Rocket.

The looks on show were designed by trainees studying on government Apprentice and Train to Gain schemes, who learn hairdressing techniques and theory at college, while also learning on the job in salons across west London.

The event attracted salon owners and business people from all over west London, as well as students and their families.

Derry Moody, Acting Head of Hairdressing at Uxbridge College, said: "This evening not only celebrates the creative work of the students, but the commitment of all those employers providing on-the-job training for them. I'm sure everyone will agree it is vital for stylists to have the best possible skills - and they don't get these without the right training. I think between us we are doing a great job."
