Sustainability at Uxbridge College
Our sustainability activities raise awareness and implement environmentally friendly solutions within both campuses at Uxbridge College.
These solutions are promoted under a scheme called ecollegey. Activities include:
Automatic sensors in both campuses in various rooms that switch off lights when no-one is in a room
Automatic switch off of all student computers at 9pm every day
Over 90% of the paper we use for printing and photocopying at Uxbridge College is from recycled paper
17% of the Uxbridge Campus’s heating and hot water is provided by Biomass and Ground Source Heat Pumps resulting in lower emissions
Our Sports Hall and North Block at Uxbridge are highly efficient buildings, well insulated and require minimal heat and cooling
Both campuses provide recycling bins for plastics, cans and paper
The Display Energy Certificate (DEC) rating for the Uxbridge Campus is very good at 54 and Hayes Campus is 91 – the typical rating is 100
We encourage staff car sharing schemes and offer the Cycle Scheme, that assists staff to pay for a brand new bike over a period of a year, saving tax in the process
Our refectory outlets serve a range of FAIRTRADE products (including coffee, eggs, chicken and milk) and promote this initiative with a dedicated fortnight of student and staff activities every year
Student awareness activities including FAIRTRADE fortnight and National Bike Week 2012
We offer the Starbucks cup for life initiative at our coffee outlet which saves customers 35p per 14oz coffee and also stops a paper cup from being used.
The Ecollegey logo was designed by former Uxbridge College Design student Abigail Rawlings.
