
Uxbridge College chess team won the Hillingdon Secondary Schools Championship shield at their first attempt. They beat eight other teams including the defending champions, Bishop Ramsey School in Ruislip, who have won the competition four years running.
The team from Uxbridge College won five of their eight matches 18:0, at the competition hosted by Bishop Ramsey on 18 March.
Team captain Xavier Guillen won all eight of his matches.
Their coach, Ray Ferris, Director of 14-19 Programmes at Uxbridge College, said: "The team played tremendously well throughout their eight matches. The standard of their play became better and better throughout the day and I'm very proud of their achievement. We look forward to competing again next year."
