Uxbridge College students gained second place when they took on top chess teams from all over West London.
Competition was tough with teams from five London Boroughs - Brent, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham and Ealing, as well as another Hillingdon team.
The Uxbridge team won or drew all their team matches at the contest held in Ruislip on Thursday 10 June but were pipped to the post by Hammersmith & Fulham.
Ray Ferris, chess team coach and Director of 14-19 Programmes at Uxbridge College, said: "We were delighted to be able to represent Hillingdon Borough at this competition. The standard of play was very high throughout and our students did fantastically well to come second. I am very proud of their achievement. Sipison Kumarakulasingam won every single one of the matches he played which was a tremendous personal achievement."
This is only the second chess tournament Uxbridge students have entered, having won the Hillingdon Secondary Schools Chess Championship at their first attempt in March this year.
