A group of students from Uxbridge College who made cake stands out of recycled china won a prize for their unusual idea.
The five engineering students competed in the Young Enterprise Area Final (Hillingdon and Hounslow) at Thames Valley University and were awarded the Most Innovative Company prize.
Their company, ‘The Green China Company’, produces two and three tier cake stands made from recycled plates of different shapes, sizes and designs, as well as photo frames decorated with recycled mosaic tiles.
The students were required to present a trade stand and deliver a five minute presentation to the judges, the Mayors of Hillingdon and Hounslow, and a large audience of participants and guests.
The group consisted of Cameron Park (MD), Ramil Babilonia, Ghazaleh Dastbaz, Kapil-Dev Guness and Lasitha Jegarajah, who were supported by their business adviser Karl Howe of Bluepath.co.uk.
Lorraine Collins, Executive Director - Enterprise & Development at Uxbridge College, said: “This is a great idea and the group certainly deserves to be recognized for their innovation. We were impressed that our engineers did so well in this competition against some very talented opponents. I know this group plans to continue producing the cake stands and photo frames and I’m sure they will continue to prove very popular!”
