An Uxbridge College hairdressing student has come fourth in a major national competition, winning a medal, certificate and cheque.
Julie Aylett competed in the ladies cut and blow dry final at the prestigious Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) hair and beauty competition in Blackpool.
Julie was one of 16 Uxbridge College students that went to the national competition, all having won regional heats. To help fund their trip they raised cash through activities including a cutathon - where students gave haircuts and blow dries to members of the public in exchange for donations - a cake sale, sponsored leg waxing on two male members of staff and selling roses on Valentine's Day.
Jo Withers, Head of Hair, Beauty and Hospitality at Uxbridge College, said: "It is fantastic to see our students getting the experience of competing at national level and we are really proud of Julie's win. This is further proof that Uxbridge College is training some really creative, talented people to become the stylists of the future."
Students are taught in professional level hair and beauty salons based on Uxbridge College's Hayes Community Campus and offer hair and beauty treatments to the public for a reasonable rate.
