Uxbridge College students try out Judo at the Sports Fair.Taster sessions including judo, golf and handball were on offer to students and staff at Uxbridge College to encourage them to get more involved in sport.
Basketball, football and Futsal – a five-a-side version of the sport which uses a smaller goal and ball and normally takes place indoors – were also played.
The Sports Fair event also included information stalls for those interested in playing new sports, taking up community volunteering opportunities, or enrolling on coaching and officiating courses.
Sports student Madalina Ster-Popa (16), said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the handball and judo sessions and would like to do it again. I already do Karate so it was a good opportunity to try out another Martial Art.”
Shayne Chandler, Sports Academy Co-ordinator at Uxbridge College, said: “Sports are a big part of what’s on offer at Uxbridge College, whether you are studying sport or doing a different subject. This event gave people a chance to have a go at something they might not otherwise have got involved in.”
The event was run with the support of Sport England and its Sport Makers scheme, Pro-Active West London, and representatives from various sports governing bodies.
