Outside their winning shop window are (l-r) owners Dudley and Birget Arthur, with judge Lorraine Collins from Uxbridge College and shop manager Colin Downes. Traders from Hayes took part in a festive shop window competition judged by Uxbridge College’s Lorraine Collins and Phill Hill, the creative director of International Visual Ltd which is delivering a shopfront improvement scheme for Hillingdon Council.
A total of 30 businesses have taken part in the scheme to make their stores more appealing and 16 shops entered the Christmas window dressing competition, run and sponsored by Hayes Town Business Forum, which is chaired by Mr Puar.
The winning entry was by Platterpuss Fancy Dress and Karaoke shop in Station Road, which won a certificate and £100.
There were also five highly commended stores: Dahram Jewellers, Crockford Mills, World Wines, Harrold Opticians and YMCA Charity Shop.
Lorraine Collins, Uxbridge College’s Executive Director Enterprise & Development, was invited to be one of the judges because of the College’s membership of Hayes Town Partnership. Ms Collins said: “I was delighted to see the range of businesses which entered the competition – the diversity of retailers really reinforces how important the sector is to the local economy. The College supports these traders by offering specialist retail training and apprentice opportunities to help grow their business.”
