Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes that lead to nationally recognised qualifications and the Evening Standard first launched the Ladder for London campaign in September 2012 to help unemployed young adults into work through a paid apprenticeship. Since the launch of the campaign 650 apprentices have been taken on by many London businesses. The Evening Standard now has five new apprentice providers to achieve the target of 1,000 additional apprenticeships. The apprenticeship training consortium for Ladder for London includes City Gateway, Hackney Community College, Barking & Dagenham College, City & Islington College, Uxbridge College and Westminster Kingsway College.
Laraine Smith OBE, Principal of Uxbridge College, commented: “Uxbridge College is proud to be a part of the Evening Standard’s Ladder for London campaign. Working as part of a consortium of colleges which will enable us to provide a range of opportunities for London’s young people and we look forward to helping transform their lives.”
