International Students GalleryUxbridge College has been established since 1965 and is a publicly funded government College with a Student Sponsor licence. It has been one of the top Colleges in London for a number of years.

On 1 August 2017 we merged with Harrow College to become HCUC. Uxbridge College is listed on the Home Office Register of Student Sponsors as HCUC and incorporates both Uxbridge and Hayes Campuses.

Uxbridge is a great place for an international student to live and work, and Uxbridge College welcomes students from around the world. We are only 20 kilometres from London with direct underground train links to the city centre, and are very close to Heathrow, the UK's biggest international airport. The area around Uxbridge is multi-culturally diverse and most nationalities find a 'home from home' community in London while they are here.

Uxbridge College provides international students with a great range of English Language, Pre-University and Pathway to Degree courses. We offer the A Level programme, which is the UK’s Gold Standard for University Entry into the UK, to help you achieve the grades needed to apply for the world’s leading Universities. We also offer BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma qualifications that are planned with your future career in mind so you will learn the things you really need to help you go from college straight into work or University.

We also offer dedicated pathways to obtaining a degree in a range of subjects including BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma qualifications in Business, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computing and Systems Development, Computing and Systems Development - Games Development Pathway, Sport and Travel & Tourism Management.

A HND qualification can have a really positive impact on your career prospects. Of our international students who graduated in 2020, almost all went on to a degree course at UK universities. Over the last few year’s students have gone to a range of different universities including:

  • Brunel University
  • Hertfordshire University
  • Middlesex University
  • London South Bank
  • University of Greenwich
  • University of West London.

Please note that we do not offer Student Visa Sponsorship on Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

plan 2

Examinations don't have to be daunting if you prepare for it, well in advance. We’ve put together the following tips to help you plan your studies ahead of exam season.

Make a Study Plan

Planning and organising your study is key. Students want to do well and study hard but many cannot because they don’t know how or where to begin. Planning is the first step. Make a plan including the topics you need to study and put it into a timetable. Mix up your subjects to avoid burnout. Take subjects you like, and dislike, into consideration. Make sure you set aside enough time for leisure and other commitments. And most importantly stick to the plan.

Set S.M.A.R.T study goals

Goals give you an endpoint to focus on. This could be a deadline for finishing a chapter, or attaining a certain score on a practise test, or simply studying for a set amount of time. Whatever it is, set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Timed) goals and don’t forget to reward yourself when you achieve these goals. Goals are a stepping stone to completing your studies in a structured way.

Choose a suitable location

Find a quiet, comfortable place to study. Make sure you have plenty of light and enough space for your books. Ensure the area is free from distractions like your phone, noise, pets etc… Keep your study and writing materials at hand before you begin your studies.

Keep fit & healthy

Eating a healthy diet is essential to help you focus and concentrate on your studies. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids. Also make time for exercise and get outdoors between your studies if you can. It’s also important to get enough sleep at night. If you like studying late into the night or early in the morning, make sure you catch up on the sleep lost.

Take frequent breaks

Last but not the least. Take a break! Taking breaks is very important. Long periods of study without breaks, diminishes your focus and concentration. Breaks will help you pay more attention and helps to bring your mind back to focus on your studies. Breaks can also be a way to reward yourself for attaining a study goal. Such as spending break time on social media, talking to a friend, watching an episode of your favourite programme etc...

We hope, following the steps above will give you a good head start to preparing for your exams!

AIM HIGHER AT UXBRIDGE COLLEGE

Studying a higher education course at Uxbridge College (part of HCUC - a merger between Harrow College & Uxbridge College) is a great start. Our courses are focused on equipping you with the knowledge and practical skills you need to excel in your chosen field.

At Uxbridge College our mission is to ensure that learners are at the heart of what we do. To view our Mission Statement please click here.

Our high-quality HND courses provide you with the skills you need to succeed, whether you want to go to university or get into the world of work. They are equivalent to one or two years at university and cost less than university fees. They are also highly valued by employers. Many of our HE graduates go on to enter BA and BSc Honours degrees in the second or third years at university and we have links with a range of local universities including Brunel, Bucks New University and University of West London.

We offer:

  • University-level courses without university costs – so don’t let high fees put you off studying. The fees for our high-quality courses are below the UK average so you can take advantage of a cost-effective way to study, without compromising on quality.
  • HNC/D qualifications, accredited by Pearson, which you can top up at university to gain a full degree
  • Teacher Training qualifications (DET) are offered for those wishing to teach in the post-16 sector, which are accredited by Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Combine practical skills with theory giving you the knowledge and hands-on experience demanded by employers
  • Lecturers with the industry expertise to enhance your learning
  • The support you need to help you find your way through the challenges of studying while you may be working, looking after a family or juggling your finances.
  • HE qualifications on your doorstep, so you can avoid the expense of relocating to university and finding the money for living costs, by studying locally.
  • A convenient way to study our courses are usually held over two or three days per week, giving you the opportunity to combine your study with your personal commitments.
  • The opportunity for you to develop many skills including: self confidence, communication skills, flexibility, an analytical mind, self-motivation and personal organisation.
  • Support for your progression - our entry requirements accommodate students that are progressing straight from further education and those that may have been out of education for some time.

Uxbridge College’s higher education courses were successfully reviewed in March 2017 by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, who safeguard standards and improve the quality of higher education in the UK. The review had confidence that our academic standards are reliable and meet UK requirements.

Financial Support for HE – are you eligible?

Financial help may be available depending on your individual circumstances. Here is a general guide to the main types of support that you may be able to access:

  • Tuition Fee Loan – all full-time home students can apply for this loan. It is paid directly to your university or college and has to be paid back once you are earning over a certain amount.
  • Maintenance Loan for Living Costs – all full-time students can also apply to Student Loans Company for a maintenance loan to help with living expenses. The amount you can borrow is dependent on your circumstances. As with the tuition fee loan repayments start when you are earning over a certain amount. Interest rates are low and are linked to inflation.
  • Special Support Grant - this is a non-repayable grant which may be available to some students, depending on your personal circumstances.

The information above is based on the financial support available to students from the UK studying on a full-time HE course.

For more information, to find out if you are eligible for financial support and to use the calculator to help you get an estimate of the funding you may be eligible for visit

UxbridgeCollege InfoGraphic ApprenticeshipReforms ThumbThe government has introduced apprenticeship reforms as a result of the UK's vision to improve the quality and give employers more control. The new apprenticeship standards will be designed by employers, based around the jobs people do and will last a minimum of 12 months.

The reforms bring about changes to the apprenticeship funding as well as the overall apprenticeship system including:

  • Introduction of Apprenticeship Levy for employers with a pay bill above £3 million
  • Funding rules and methodology.

They come into effect in April 2017 and have been developed for three sizes of businesses. Click below to find out more.

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS - ENGLISH & MATHS

English and maths qualifications are essential, with many higher education institutions and employers demanding a high level of understanding in both subjects.

If you are 16-18 and studying a full-time programme at the college, our aim is to ensure that you leave college having achieved the best English and maths grades you can. Classes are timetabled to fit in with your main study programme and you will be in a group that is at the right level for you, based on your prior experience and grades. All students will be working towards attaining the equivalent of grade 4/5 (grade C) or above at GCSE.

If you are an adult (over 19 years old), looking to continue your education, or have been out of full-time education for some time, then we have part-time courses in Functional English and maths from Entry level to Level 2 -including GCSE. These will cover and develop, speaking, reading, writing and functional maths skills.

There are no set entry requirements, but students will undertake an initial assessment, to match them to an appropriate level. We will also take account of any prior formal qualifications in English and maths. Courses run over 2 semesters in the evening for Functional Skills. You can only study one subject per semester and will be the able to move up levels in the subject studied, subject to passing, or perhaps choose to switch subjects over in the second semester, to ensure both, English and maths skills are developed. For GCSE the programme runs over one academic year.
All courses will have a final exam/controlled assessment at the end of the course, with certificates of achievement provided once claims are able to be made with the Awarding Body.

These programmes require some out of the classroom studying as well, for this, we will provide access to an online software package (Century), which will support your learning and development in the subjects. Details of this will be provided at the start of the course.

If learners have been out of education for some time we also have some sample resources covering Functional skills and these can be found here. It would be useful to work through these resources in readiness for sitting the initial assessments and helping develop your confidence with the content of these programmes.

We look forward to seeing you apply and joining our evening classes
