Functional Skills English (Pre GCSE): Level 2 - PT Evening
You would normally need to have a Level 1 Functional Skills English or equivalent. However, there are no set entry requirements. Before starting the course, you will be assessed for suitability and to agree the level you can study. Prior qualifications will be used where appropriate.
Who is the course for
"The course is ideal if you wish to get ahead and improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and, gain a qualification to evidence your ability.
As part of the course, you will learn to analyse and understand the meaning and purpose of texts. You will also learn to write extended pieces of writing while at the same time developing your grammar, punctuation and spelling. You will be able to also develop your speaking skills for real-life situations including formal situations.
Achieving this qualification will increase your confidence and motivation. The skills you gain will be invaluable in the workplace or in any further learning."
"You will enhance your skills for life and further study through a wide range of tasks. These include:
Reading and analysing a wide range of texts including detecting the author’s point of view, implicit meaning and/or bias.
Improving grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Writing extended documents such as formal letters, emails, reports and articles including texts that intend to inform, persuade, instruct and describe these to readers.
Discussing topics including participating in formal and informal meetings and, giving presentations."
"2 hours of classroom tuition per week, in the evening.
e-learning using Century and directed self-study."
How is the course assessed
"You will be regularly assessed during your course and receive feedback to help you develop the skills required for the external exams.
Functional Skills English is assessed in three parts:
Speaking and Listening – Assessed in class Reading - Exam Writing – Exam Successful candidates will achieve a nationally recognised qualification."
