Entry Requirements
16 years or over To complete basic initial assessment achieving a minimum level 1 in maths and English Preferable GCSE Grades 4 -9 (GCSE A-C) Employment in the Health and Social Care Adult sector is essential working a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Who is the course for
The Diploma in Care is for adult care workers, support workers, key workers, healthcare support workers and assistants in a range of healthcare settings. This could be in residential/nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person's own home or some clinical healthcare settings. Job titles might include: Care Assistant, Care Worker, Support Worker, Support Worker - Supported Living, Key Worker in Residential Settings, Key Worker, Home Care Support Worker, Substance Misuse Worker, Learning Disability Support Worker, Mental Health Support Worker and Mental Health Outreach Worker.
Course Content
The qualification contains units which are competence based and several knowledge based units. The qualification is structured in a way which will require you to complete a group of mandatory units, the content of which is required across any adult care or healthcare support role at level 2. In addition there is a wide range of optional units to support areas of specialism, including:
- Learning disability services
- End of life Care
- Dementia Care
- Residential Care
- Domiciliary Care
- Healthcare Support.
Study Methods
Day release once a week is required where you will study competence and knowledge based units that are required in adult care or healthcare support roles to build an electronic portfolio of evidence. On the job training takes place in the work setting and you will be observed in practice therefore, it is essential that you are employed within the Health and Social Care Adult sector.
How is the course assessed
E- Portfolio of evidence which will include assignments, written questions, reflective accounts, case studies, professional discussions and workplace observations.
Where next - Further Studies
Learners can progress to an apprenticeship or qualification such as the Level 3 Diploma in Care the Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship; or the Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support or the Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship, provided they are in a suitable job role.
