Entry Requirements

Candidates must have achieved the C&G 4270-13 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent), worked in the sector for a minimum of 4 years, hold a clean drivers licence. All candidates will require an interview prior to acceptance onto the course.

Who is the course for

Anyone who wants to become a qualified MOT tester for motor vehicles (class 4 and 7) is required to successfully complete this qualification. There is now no requirement for candidates to already be working in an MOT test centre, nor do they need to be nominated by the test centre to do this course.

Course Content

  • Unit 201: Safe working practices in the vehicle test centre
  • Unit 202: Working relationships within the vehicle test centre
  • Unit 203: Managing own professional development as a vehicle tester
  • Unit 204 : Carry out pre-test checks for a statutory periodic roadworthiness test
  • Unit 205: Carry out a statutory periodic roadworthiness test (classes 4 and 7)

How is the course assessed

Multiple Choice Test (40 questions in 75 minutes). Learners can have access to the MOT Inspection Manual during the assessment.

Practical Test (Assessed through observation).

Individuals can progress to the Level 3 Award for MOT Vehicle Test Centre Managers (3428-03).

Suitable safety boots and overalls will be required to carry out practical activities in the workshop and and may be purchased from Amazon, B&Q etc.

The candidate must provide their own boots and overalls.

Please note the overalls should be navy colour and are described as workshop or warehouse coats at many outlets.
